Saakashvili plans to dissolve the Odessa police because of corruption

KIEV, August 28. / TASS /. The governor of the Odessa region, Mikhail Saakashvili called the local police, “criminal syndicate”, and announced its intention to dissolve it completely.

He said this on his page on the social networking site Facebook.

“Yesterday in the act when receiving a bribe of protection racket was arrested the head of the Odessa Police. Confirm what I have always argued - Odessa police is well-organized criminal syndicate. In my view, they should be fully dissolve and re-organize,” - wrote Saakashvili.

Odessa also announced the creation of the Governor, together with Interior Minister Arsen Avakov a special unit within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which will deal with “corruption within the administration and the police.” Saakashvili has promised to continue the “cleansing” in an environment of “high officials”.

August 25 in Odessa, has unveiled a new patrol police. “Odessa and Ukrainian police will demonstrate the best quality,” - said the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at the inauguration ceremony of the new patrol police in Odessa.

Earlier, Saakashvili said that the United States will finance the training of new staff and the fight against corruption in Odessa.
