Diplomat: NATO training center in Georgia can be a military base

NATO training center for the training of units to combat extremist group “Islamic State” (LIH), which is to be established in Georgia, could develop into a NATO military base, the vice-president of the League of military diplomats, Doctor of Historical Sciences Vladimir Vinokurov.

About NATO plans to establish a regional training center of Georgia still September 1, 2014, said former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. Last Thursday, the current head of the alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, said that the center will be trained by NATO troops, Georgia and partner countries. As a possible placement center called military base in Vaziani (near Tbilisi).

Last week, the defense ministers of NATO member countries also decided to place in Eastern Europe six command and control centers - in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Bulgaria and Romania. The Ministers reaffirmed their determination to deepen cooperation with Georgia, with the ultimate aim of its accession to NATO.

Vinokourov believes that the creation of the NATO command centers at the border with Russia “not palatable” for the Russian side, but “they do not decide anything.” Fears of a diplomat is the situation in Georgia.

“It is more difficult with Georgia - they open a training center there, a sort of training camps for groups to participate in the fight against LIH. But in fact it is the first object of NATO in this country, and this is serious.
