Detained in Georgia, Russian citizen Konstantin Rodionov faces up to four years imprisonment for violation of the so-called law on the occupied territories. This was announced by Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich.

He added that the Russian citizen was arrested in Tbilisi on February 17 on suspicion of visiting Abkhazia. In the bail before the trial was denied.

“Now is K.Rodionov remand number 8. He faces from 2 to 4 years in prison or a large fine,” - said the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

He stressed that, despite numerous appeals of Russian diplomats, Georgian side has not officially confirmed the arrest K.Rodionova.

“What is happening once again confirms the absence of any security guarantees for Russians visiting Georgia”, - concluded A.Lukashevich.

Recall that in late February, the Georgian authorities have introduced visa-free regime for Russians. Meanwhile, Deputy Director of Press and Information Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry said the total silence about the lack of legal security conditions of Russians in Georgia.

“Russian citizens who visited Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the Georgian law are criminals and at the entrance to Georgia are subject to criminal prosecution. This issue is particularly relevant in view of the nature of the mass of Russians traveling to Abkhazia (up to a million visits a year, including day trips).
