Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili spoke today with an initiative to cancel the visa regime for Russian citizens. As he said tonight in his annual report in Parliament, “Georgia will never be open to Russian investors and Russian tourists.”

“I stand with unilateral initiative to abolish the visa regime with Russia. All Russian businessmen should know that they can come to Georgia, to invest money in it, take out and bring the money to do business, to open businesses and employ people,” - said the Georgian president. He promised that the Russian business in Georgia will be in “the best interest of the regime.”

Saakashvili also said that all Russians should know that they may at any time to come to Georgia and rest and work in the country.

We recall a few years ago after a Georgian-Russian relations, Russia has unilaterally imposed strict visa regime for Georgian citizens. In response, Tbilisi, too, has introduced a visa regime for Russian citizens, but a lightweight: Russians can get a visa at any checkpoint, without its prior clearance.
